In this memorial what calls my attention is the structure, because when you go around the statue you see how the U.S. flag raises up. What I found particularly interesting was that the Iwo Jima battle was during World War II. I learned more about the Iwo Jima battle and more about the role of the U.S. in World War II. What I already knew about the Iwo Jima memorial was that only three soldiers from the memorial survived the Iwo Jima battle, the names of the ones that raised the flag were Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, Michael Strank, John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, and Ira Hayes, only 3 of them survived(John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, and Ira Hayes). I found out that Rene Gagnon was an indian. When I saw this memorial I was thinking about all the soldiers who gave their souls in the battle of Iwo Jima, and World War II.

It is located in Arlington, VA near the Arlington National Cemetery… Felix de Weldon is the creator of this memorial. It is a bronze statue of 6 soldiers raising the flag of the U.S.. The base of the memorial is made of granite and there is an inscription with the words:
“In honor and in memory of the men of the U.S. Marine Corps who gave their lives to their country, since Nov. 10, 1775”.
